Is Lego Better For Kids Than Computer Games?

I just came across the poll question on Ninemsn.com.au, Is Lego Better For Kids Than Computer Games? It’s of interest to me since much of my degree was about … computer games.

The result of the poll at the time of writing:

The ratio seems pretty remarkable, though I did expect there would be more Yes’s Than Nos. Anyway, the poll question is kind of silly - why would you compare Lego to computer games? Apples and oranges. You might as well ask “Is reading a book  better for kids than playing tennis?” In addition, what is meant by “better” and kids of what age?

It’s very convenient to say that computer games have a negative affect on kids. But what an oversimplification! Think about how many different types of computer games there are.

The following are some games and game types that demand strategic, tactical, creative thought, or are educational.

Having said all that, I think Ninemsn needs to make better polls :-) Oh and by the way I loved Lego as a kid … and of course computer games as well.
